Lately I have tried to get some more culture.
I saw Blasted at the Carriage Works in Leeds. A truly shocking play with hetrosexual and homosexual rape, torture suicide and cannibalism. A rather disturbing play especially when the naked actors are just a few feet away. The audience was unsettled (as was I) and at times rather embarrased. I am not sure if the play achieved the intention of getting progressively worse as civil war broke out (after all, seeing a rape is shocking enough). Although credit due to the three actors simply for their courage to do all of that on stage in 2hrs. I think I might go back to some less disturbing theatre for a while.
The Last King of Scotland is a fantasic film. It is (hardly) based on a book of the same title which itself was fictional (how the movie can claim to be "inspired by real events" is beyond question to any logical person!). Anyway, factual accounts aside, it is a great movie but again a little disturbing in places. Again, sex (although not rape), torture and murder. I am fine, seriously Doctor.
